Started fabricating custom choke and cables. 2

September 11, 2003
Completed custom choke and cables and adjusted on carburetors.
Mounted and secured redrive unit on engine. Mounted crankshaft cog on engine. Installed belt and adjusted belt tension.
Installed prop on engine. Installed muffler assembly on engine. 3

September 12, 2003
Started preparing the plane to start the engine for the initial break in.

September 13, 2003
After starting the engine, we found the tach was not working. Traced the problem to the engine side wiring. The EGT was not working. Found 3 wires unsoldered. Resoldered the wires on the quick connect. EGT works ok now. The engine started immediately and ran perfectly and smoothly. SOUNDED GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 2, 2003
Temporarily installed a Tiny Tach on the plane to do the engine break-in. The engine was broken-in per the factory specifications. Problems with the CHT’s and dash mounted tach. Will resolder the quick disconnects and see if we can get the CHT’s and tach working on next engine start.

October 3, 2003
Traced the tach wiring and found 2 wires had inadvertently been crossed causing the tach not to work. Changed these 2 wires and resoldered the rest of the wires in the quick disconnect coupling and then traced and repaired a bad solder joint on the front CHT. Took airplane outside and started it and found both the tach and CHT’s to be working fine. Installed quick disconnect plugs on both strobe light wires. Removed the mounting bracket for the intercom due to inadequate support for the unit. Designed another mounting plate and Mike is going to shear and break the part for installation.

October 4, 2003
Secured bottom strobe light wire to bottom fabric plate and left longeron using plastic wire clips and 3/16” aluminum pop rivets. Fabricated and installed full back plate for the intercom. 4 Fabricated and installed two cross support braces for bottom fabric rails beneath both seats. Installed horizontal stabilizers. Leveled and installed elevators. Fabricated and installed elevator push rods. Removed the Tiny Tach used to do the engine break-in.

October 6, 2003
Rerouted wiring from strobe box to bottom strobe and secured with plastic Adel clamps and pop rivets. Drilled 3 holes in top fabric plate for wiring from strobe box to top strobe. Measured and fabricated a template for the dorsal fin elevator control rod mod.

October 7, 2003
Designed and started fabricating parts for the dorsal fin elevator control rod mod. Sanded fiberglass nose cone to obtain a flush fit on the fuselage frame.
Cut pieces of non-slip material and installed them on the front rudder pedals.

October 8, 2003
Removed dorsal fin, horizontal stabilizers, elevators, instrument panel, ELT, and intercom to prepare the plane to be covered with Stits poly-fiber. Pumped gas out of the gas tank into a 5 gallon gas can. Drilled holes in the nose cone to mount the rubber boot for the nose gear. 5

October 24, 2003
Installed anti-slip material on rear rudder pedals. Removed engine, nose cone and landing gear prior to covering with Stits poly-fiber.

October 25, 2003
Set up left wing to start covering (Fabric seminar: Teacher: Mike Harrison, with 5 students). Covered the bottom of the left wing using the Stits process. 6

October 27, 2003
Worked on 22’ Trail Boss trailer for airplane. Sanded the fuselage with 150 grit Scotch Brite paper.

October 28, 2003
Worked on 22’ Trail Boss trailer for airplane. Had Trail Boss weld 8 brackets in the trailer for carrying both wings on the walls of the trailer. Cleaned the fuselage with MEK.

October 29, 2003
Completed installing wing hangars (Rony Brackets) and custom fabricated plates in trailer for carrying the wings.

October 30, 2003
Started working on the transitions between the airframe and the fiberglass nose cone. Worked on the bottom of the left wing.

October 31, 2003
Put glue on bottom of right wing in preparation for fabric installation. Fabricated and temporarily installed the left transition between the airframe and fiberglass nose cone. 7 & 8
