The lumbar support is an added back rest in front of the original with holes top and bottom for adjustment and curved out near the bottome like many "lumbar seats" in cars etc.

The larger dorsel fin seems to take the place of the "training wheels" AKA, "finlets" which Bob just didn't like the looks of.
